The Mitchinson House is an existing terrace building located in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs with a rich architectural history presented through a heritage façade, ornate olive green bathroom tiles, and traditional construction features. 

 

The project requested a full documentation set for the proposed renovation of the site. The client (home owners) desired a more open plan, family friendly design that invited nature inside and offered elements of modern Australian interiors. 

 

The main colour palette is an organic collection of raw materials native to Australia such as black butt timber and the native grasses bring a sense of the Australian bush to the internal courtyard area. This contrasts with traditional yet timeless design features like the heritage bathroom tiles creating a home that should be treasured as they are becoming a rare find in the Sydney market. 

 

As a terrace, natural light is valuable and so a wide spanning bi-fold glass door into the backyard was integrated, bringing a luminous and refreshing feel to the space. 

 

A full documentation set was presented to the client. This professional packaged included a floorplan, reflective ceiling plan, section plans, kitchen detail plan (including joinery and island bench installation), and ensuite detail plan.
