Aesop Paddington
RETAIL DESIGN
Established in 1987, Aesop has become one of Australia’s leading skin care brands renowned both for their high quality products and for creating architectural statements in their retail design that respects and highlights the past of that particular precinct.
The inspiration for the final design of this retail store was drawn from the 1920’s Art Deco Movement which was characterized by sleek and anti-traditional elegance that symbolized wealth and sophistication.
Large open space creates a gallery-feel to the exhibition of Aesop products which is complimented by the long bench seat that covers the width of the entire right wall. The hexagonal mid-floor display is bespoke design that creates a memorable experience for customers who can try different products on the elegant, geometric display and wash their hands under a collection of cascading water fountains. The use of Foresso, a practical new sheet material composed of recycled high quality wood offcuts is a sustainable, eye catching design choice that highlights just how beautiful sustainable design can be.
A North-East facing block, the site receives morning light and warmth, capturing the sultry palette of materials and iconic amber glass Aesop bottles. Feature pendant lighting, spotlights and recessed lighting compliment the later hours of the day, bringing further attention to product displays.
